Representing the Cecchetti tradition in Washington, D.C.
Dedicated to exploring the work and life of ballet master Enrico Cecchetti and applications of his method worldwide -- historically and in the present.
OUR MISSION
is to perpetuate and clarify the teachings of Enrico Cecchetti, and to encourage the use of his syllabus and theories in the development of professional ballet dancers today worldwide.
From his birth in a theater dressing room, through his career as an outstanding dancer and mime, and later as ballet master to the noted professionals of his day, Cecchetti exemplified dedication to excellence in all aspects of the art form called ballet.
As a teacher, Cecchetti worked with professional dancers,
with a focus on enhancing their full range of artistic presentation. His classroom exercises and patterns were devised to simultaneously challenge technical mastery and develop stylistic expression, for the purpose of not merely strengthening but of stretching the artistry of each dancer as an individual. This is the tradition which the Institute seeks to preserve and extend.
